2020 UCM Summer Piano and Organ Institute: Beethoven at 250

Students are enthusiastically invited to register now for the 2020 University of Central Missouri Summer Piano and Piano Institute.

This week long immersion into keyboard studies includes daily private lessons along with classes in keyboard literature, music theory, and performance skills. This year we are very excited to announce that our curriculum will also include organ study! We are honored to welcome Dr. William McCandless as guest faculty artist for group class (beginners) and private instruction (students with previous experience). Students will have access to organs throughout the week for practice and instruction.

We also will have our ever-popular Monster Piano Ensemble Reading Event where students will be able to sight read ensemble music on multiple concert grand pianos. Even the most shy students will find this to be a no-pressure and high-fun event. (Many students consider it the high point of the week.) Repertoire lists will be available ahead of time for students who want to take a peek before they come to camp.

Ample practice time has been scheduled for each day of the camp on our beautiful Steinway pianos. Counselors will be available during practice hours to answer questions and help with practice techniques. Outside of class and practice time, recreational activities will take place at a Warrensburg park. Friends and family are invited to attend the Friday Finale camp recital in Hart Recital Hall. All students will perform, and have the option of doing a solo or ensemble piece.

Tuition fee of $500 includes five nights lodging in one of the university’s air-conditioned residence halls, meals from Sunday through Friday, a camp t-shirt, and all planned recreational activities. The fee for commuters is $330; meals may be purchased at an additional cost (contact Dr. Hynes for more information). The deadline for application is June 12.  The fee will be refunded in full if the student withdraws before June 12. After that date, a $50 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund.

UCM Summer Piano and Organ Institute is for students who were in grades 7-12 during the 2019-20 academic year, and have had at least three years of private piano instruction. Note that we do accept 6th graders on a case-by-case basis.
