Junior Musicians, School Grade 5-8

Enrollment: 

Description: This competition is an opportunity for students of piano, strings, and other instruments to compete for awards and to perform in a recital setting.

Format: Adjudicator may select winners from each group. Each winner will receive a trophy. Students should be prepared to perform their selected movement in its entirety at the competition. However, depending on the number of entrants, student auditions may have a time limit. In this case, all competitors will be given the same audition time allotment. The competition is open to the public.

Repertoire‬‭ :‬‭ ‬‭ One movement (memorized) of a concerto for piano or another instrument from the standard repertoire. ‬Pedagogical concertos may be used. ‬

Maximum performance time:‬

‭ Young Musicians: 5 min.‬

‭ Junior Musicians: 10 min.‬

‭ Senior Musicians: 15 min

 

Rules: Students must furnish their own pianist for accompaniment at the competition. The student should provide a copy of the music with measures numbered for the judges. No photocopies are allowed.

Eligibility and Fees: All pianists and instrumentalists age 18 or under as of the date of the event are eligible to enter. The entrance fee is $40.00 per student whose teacher is a KCMTA member, with an additional $25.00 teacher fee for teachers who are MTNA members and $80.00 teacher fee for teachers with no MTNA membership.

‬Enrollment‬‭ :‬‭ ‬‭ Submit the online entry form found at ‬kansascitymusicteachers.org‬‭. ‬‭ One check made out to KCMTA may be sent by‬ the teacher to cover the total fee. No enrollments will be accepted after the deadline. Enrollment fees should be mailed.‬

‭All teachers who enroll students will be assigned to help with the event.‬
