For more details on membership, visit the MTNA membership page.

The Music Teachers National Association offers a networking system to keep members informed and up-to-date on techniques used by the most revered educators in the profession.

Membership benefits include:

One of the benefits we music teachers receive is a price break on some good deals for the Friends of Chamber Music Series. If there is not a price break, we still get an opportunity to write off the ticket price of a performing arts event. We have great things on all of the calendars of professional and amateur ensembles in Kansas City for the coming year. Some are pricey and a lot of them are free. Don't forget to treat yourself!

Individual Membership

Your membership is a joint membership with MTNA, Kansas or Missouri MTA, and Kansas City MTA. Add national, state, and local dues to determine your total.

MTNA National Membership Information 2009-2010

The membership year for all member types except collegiate is July 1 through June 30. The collegiate membership year is October 1 through September 30.

The following is a description of the national membership categories as defined in the MTNA Bylaws adopted June 2001:

Active Membership: $63.00*

"Active Membership shall be open to all individuals who are professionally engaged in any field of music activity and who are also members of an affiliated (state ) association."

Within the Active Membership category is the senior discount policy. Effective with the 2001-2002 membership year a discount of 25% on national dues was granted to members 70 years of age and older. One does not have to be a member for five consecutive years to obtain the senior discount rate. The dues amount is $47.25*

However, the 70 year of age rule does not impact members who currently receive a 50% discount. Those members who received a 50% reduction in national dues during the 2000-2001 membership year and prior are grandfathered in under the 50% reduction. The dues amount is $31.50*

Emeritus refers to a member’s MTNA certification status.

Collegiate Membership: $12.00*

"Collegiate Membership shall be open to all college students currently involved in music study, who are also members of an affiliated association. Collegiate members shall be entitled to the same privileges as Active members, but shall not have the right to vote, hold office or enter students in MTNA competitions as a Collegiate Member."

Upon graduation from college an MTNA student member may receive a 50% discount on National dues when changing their membership category from student to active. A student member may either write or call National Headquarters to apply for this discount.

Retired Membership: $31.50*

"Retired Membership is open to those who have been Active members for at least 20 continuous years, who have reached the age of 65, and who have essentially retired from teaching. A member must send written notice to the Executive Director for this class of membership to be activated. Retired members may vote, but cannot hold elective office at division or national levels or enter students in MTNA competitions." A Retired member must also belong to a state affiliated association.
